B12, Nutritional Yeast

Just wondering if it matters what the source is for nutritional yeast as a source for B12, or does all of it contain enough. I can only find it in bulk at my local health foods store, and I don't know if the B12 dissipates from it the longer it has been sitting in that bin for sale or not.

Also, how would you know if you were low in B12?

I've only been 100% vegan for about 3-4 weeks now, but I'm feeling SO tired all the time starting the last few days. Not sure if it is related or not, but I want to make sure I'm taking the right things to be healthy.

Thanks for any help!

only red star brand has b12. my doctor friend sitting next to just said, don't trip. it's super hard to not get enough b12. just look out for extreme fatigue and pale color. just try to eat lots of whole foods, and relax about it. if you're really worried go ahead and eat some dirt. (that's my advice, not the docs)

i was told that only the small powdery nut yeast has b12 and that the larger flaked which i prefer does not . do you know anything about this? hope i am wrong. also told that red star is a good source but often it says other b vit. and not b12 which after five years (9 for me now) of being vegan it is recommended to take a supplement which i do.
does the red star large flake have nut yeast?
still doing research on this myself but i would love to hear what info you may have on this matter.
      thank you

I hate nutritional yeast with a passion, so I take a B12 vitamin. And I try to not clean the dirt of my veggies…mmm, gritty goodness.
When I lived in a residence I was way low on iron and had mad fatigue, so I started chowing down on raisins and spinach. Make sure you're getting those healthy greens!

I have a piece of b-fresh gum every day or two, the bubble gum flavor makes some wicked bubbles :)

If you're feeling super tired and lame it may be that you've removed certain things from your diet without replacing them with healthy alternatives. Especially when moving to a new set of food, it's hard to diversify your recipes! Perhaps it's time to pick up a new cookbook from the library and start branching out to some new dishes involving beans, greens, and/or squash?

The Veganomicon is a great cookbook, has lots of hearty, tasty dishes, as well as ideas on how to pull a meal together, I highly recommend it!
