Has anyone seen the trailer for "Raw For 30 Days"? It's a documentary about six people, who normally eat fast food, who decide to go 100% raw for a month. It features interviews with doctors, experts, and raw foodists including Gabriel Cousens, David Wolfe, and Woody Harrelson.
I am new to raw foods and very interested in hearing from others who are raw foodists and people who are trying to change their lives for the better. Many people in my family have diabetes and I have changed my diet and gone raw to prevent myself from also getting diabetes.
The trailer on Youtube at:
www.youtube.com/watch
There is also a new two-disc DVD set that is available for order called RAW FOR LIFE, which is a encyclopedia of Raw Food, perfect for beginners like me and Raw Food enthusiasts. I have found it to be very helpful, as I have been transitioning to raw foods. It’s about how to live raw, the Raw Food philosophy, why to eat a raw food diet, important medical facts and nutritional information. It’s a very practical guide to becoming raw and staying raw.
Visit the Raw For 30 Days site at:
www.rawfor30days.com
Another great resource I have found is the Raw Summit site, which is at:
www.rawsummit2.com
I joined for the first Raw Summit and found it very helpful and interesting and it’s FREE!

Re: Vegan uncooking (Raw)
Wed, October 24, 2007 - 12:08 PMThere must be recipes for vegan spam out there, I'm sure the Asian grocery stores will have it for sale, but is it possible to make raw vegan spam?
maybe between two slices of raw bread with sprouts and arugula and sliced cucumbers, and raw tahini mustard sauce...mmm...delish.
so how about it Josh? do you have any raw vegan spam recipes? -

Wed, October 24, 2007 - 5:57 PMOkay, raw bread? WTF? You mean like dough? -
-
Re: Vegan uncooking (Raw)
Wed, October 24, 2007 - 11:44 PMyuck...raw dough! nah but you can sprout the grain and make a bread... i actually love the rye version... comes out all sticky, almost like cake! others can be a bit dry!
now raw spam, theres a horror of a thought! i have nightmares of batterd, deep fried spam they served at school when i was a kid... i made raw burgers a few weeks ago, thats the closest i would get to spam!
i love raw foods but i do worry when folk make the transition from cooked to raw suddenly, i think you need time to adjust. then again the point of it for some folk is to "shock' the system. so? -

Re: Vegan uncooking (Raw)
Thu, October 25, 2007 - 12:22 PMThere's a great raw restaurant (live organic food bar) here in Toronto that makes delicious raw bread...it is made as Draeyk said with sprouted seeds and beans that are processed and dehydrated.
It's delicious!
We had a dish that came with their raw bread and it was soft and tasty. My wife actually liked it better than cooked bread! ;-)
I actually never had spam in my life (oh the things that I have missed! ;-)
But I have seen it at the grocery store and always wondered who would say to themselves, "mmh, today I think I'm gonna buy some canned meat!" ;-)
But I am sure that there are those out there who may have liked spam, along with cheese in a can and pork rinds, so maybe the vegan powers that be should consider making vegan spam...:-)
(everyone DOES know that I'm being facetious right?, I mean I know Draeyk doesn't but everyone else does right? :-) -

Thu, October 25, 2007 - 12:55 PMCan we redeem this thread by sharing what knowledge we do have about raw vegan foods? Raw is a bit of a mystery to me, but I'm curious....esp about the bread. Has anyone ever made it?
love.

Fri, October 26, 2007 - 1:30 AMin answer to trying to redeem the thread!
ive never made the bread, ive made raw sushi... that was great... lots of sprouts/seaweeds/umboshi and so on. in the summer i do a raw dish every day at my cafe as its popular then... winter just dosnt seem the right time for raw foods.
i have to say i had one of the best vegan raw desserts you can imagine, a friend made it... it was an avocado and chocolate cheese cake! lots of seeds and nuts are blended for the base, the chocolate beans are finely ground and mixed with avocado and some syrup? cant remember what... i dont think much more was done to it but it was great!
raw foods has its place and even vegans can appreciate a good salad... although the junk food vegans ive met are a law unto themselves... hey i used to be one! what is it with the obsession for meat substitutes?

Re: Vegan uncooking (Raw)
Fri, October 26, 2007 - 9:17 AMexactly draeyk. ;-)
Raw desserts are AMAZING! they are better than cooked desserts! (believe it MdJ! :-)
Live here in Toronto make raw vegan cheesecake that is AMAZING!
and keylime pie, and chocolate mousse cake (it's like getting chocolate in an IV so rich, so pure! <drools>
and the bread, well, I never made it personally because it requires a dehydrator and those things are expensive! :(
but the bread at LIVE is amazing! they have tortilla style cracker-type bread, but they also have thick buns that have the texture of a whole grain loaf, very moist and sooo filling.
I made raw pumpkin soup that was delish! and so easy (basically just pumpkin and coconut milk)
plus sprouts! SPROUTS!!! I love sprouts! :-) -

Re: Vegan uncooking (Raw)
Fri, October 26, 2007 - 1:58 PMNnnoooooot feeing it. In fact, this makes me want to wash down a quart of soydream with a stack of oreos, but I'll probably just eat another avocado and sprouts pita with vegenaise. -

Re: Vegan uncooking (Raw)
Fri, October 26, 2007 - 7:05 PMNow, keeping in mind that I've never seen the stuff and can't quite picture it, can you make a sandwich with raw bread? Or is it like the consistency of hash browns, but made of sprouts? -
-
Re: Vegan uncooking (Raw)
Sat, October 27, 2007 - 12:40 AMits like a small tin loaf. you slice it like normal bread... whats avaliable is everything from spelt to wheat to rye and so on... it can be quite dry to very sticky. its a heavy bread if you like. the sticky ones are really like a good carrot cake, in consistency. -
