So I bought a package of "Vegan seaweed fish" at Food Fight (hurray, Food Fight!) but now I'm not sure what to do with it. The company, All Vegetarian Inc, has no web page and there are no instructions on the package. Has anyone used this product? It's fish shaped (even with scales!) and appears to be covered with seaweed. It's made from tofu (bean curd).

sounds like what i used to buy at asian markets. i chop it up and toss it in stir fries. or you can put it in soup or something. many people don't like it, so don't make your first try at it for a dinner party.

Yikes, that stuff is FISHY. I pan-fried the whole thing and served a hunk of it on a bed of broccoli slaw with gyoza sauce drizzled over. Not bad but the seaweed "skin" was a bit too much. I used the leftovers (sans slaw and sauce) in a faux tuna salad. It wasn't my dearly departed Tuno but it was close. I doubt I'll buy this again as even in my pre-vegan days I avoided very fishy tasting fish.

i went to a place in sacramento called andy nguyn's, and omg. i ordered a "salmon" in lemon grass sauce dish, and it was super effing good. if you ever get a chance go there and try it. it'll give you a better idea of what vegan fish can be.

oh, and try the bbq ribs. they've even got sugar cane sticks in the center like bones. i can't stop thinking about 'em

I've had the Tofurky, mock chicken salad, patties and nuggets, fake beef, etc, but I've been looking for the vegan equivolent of fish everywhere. I really don't care what it taste like...long as it's close to what it's suppose to taste like. I'm just trying to trick my taste buds. Thanks for the post tho.

tiarka, how long have you been vegan? if you're a newer convert i'd give it some time before you try the vegan fish. you kinda need to forget what it really tasted like, so you can make new memories. kinda like i can't remember what milk tastes like, and now soy milk takes it s place. at least that's my opinion.

Well, it's been about 10 years....but, I can still remember how things taste just by smell. So I'm eager to go ahead and try it so that can have one more thing in the "diet arsonal!"

it seems like all the fake fish is made to resemble sea food. i'd like a fresh water analog. what i really want is fake trout, but i'd settle for catfish.
